For a long time, I would have disagreed with the above title. I didn't think very highly of people who obsessed over how they look. Worse yet, I didn't think very highly of people who paid even a fraction of attention to how they looked. I thought it was a trivial, narcissistic endeavor that is a waste of time, money, and energy.
As I got older, I became increasingly critical of my traditional ways of thinking. Something I began to criticize of myself was this view about fashion that I had. I soon learned that for myself, and I'm sure others, being fashionable has less to do with how one appears to others, and more to do with how one appears to and feels about themselves.
When I dress myself and am pleased with the way I look, it sets my day up for success. I may not necessarily please others with the way I look, but dressing in a way that signals the ideal person that I'd like to be, I come closer to that ideal person. When I'm closer to the ideal version of myself, my confidence, charisma, and self-esteem also come closer to that ideal.
The world can often be a boring place. Dressing in a way that's pleasing to you is often pleasing for other people to look at. You make the world more interesting and beautiful simply by putting on some clothes and existing. Want an easy way to make the world a better place? Start being fashionable!
